At Battlefield Bed And Breakfast Inn

Our guest rooms are each designed to tell the stories that are the history of Gettysburg. You will find replicas, artifacts, and artwork throughout the inn dedicated to the Battle of Gettysburg, the Underground Railroad and the Abolitionist movement, the farmers who built the community, the efforts to memorialize the history including the women soldiers, and the writing colony that has grown in Gettysburg to tell the stories.

Our stone farmhouse was built in 1809. The property was used as a headquarters by Brigadier General Wesley Merritt during the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. Guests can stay in the original fieldstone farmhouse or in the rooms that have been artfully added.

Each room tells a story related to the history of the farmhouse and Gettysburg. Three rooms tell the story of the Union army units that fought on the property. Two rooms tell the story of the abolitionists, Cornelius and Anna Houghtelin, who lived in the home in 1863. One room tells the story of the Underground Railroad that was active in Gettysburg. One room tells the story of the March and Wolff farm families who settled in Adams County in the 1700s and whose descendants still live here today. One room is dedicated to female combat soldiers. Another is dedicated to a Gettysburg author who wrote about his achievement in bringing justice to the Buffalo Soldiers.

So come because we have history! Come because you want to stay on a farm! Come because you love garden fresh food. Come because you want to share our hospitality.

Florence March has been innkeeping since 1994. She loves music, teaching, cooking, and gardening. In a world long ago and far away, she studied geology and worked in a science lab analyzing meteorites while looking for signs of life in outer space. While raising children, she trained as a music docent and taught elementary music in the California public schools.

Yes, Florence is a Californian at heart. She was born in Hollywood and grew up in California. She moved to Gettysburg in 1993 to convert a historic farmhouse into an inn where guests can create memories and go away knowing more than they did when they arrived.

“When you visit, I would love to tell you about my song-writing. Songwriting makes me think. I’ve also written some piano music.

I accompany the choir and the hymns at the Unitarian Universalists of Gettysburg. I was one of the founding members of this church and we started right here in the Parlor at Battlefield Bed & Breakfast in 2002.

See you soon!” – Florence
