How Can I Get Around Mendocino Ca

Once you leave the bustling cities by the Bay and cross into Northern California proper, transportation becomes a bit of an adventure. But in a good way. The mass transit networks pretty much stop at the Bay Bridge, so getting to your favorite places will be done primarily by bus, train, or plane.

Uber and Lyft do brisk business across the region, as you can imagine, with wine being the primary product of consumption. Not only is it wise to let someone else do the driving after a glass or two of your favorite vino, but its also an excellent way to take in the scenery without the distraction of paying attention to the road.

Once youve landed at your chosen destination, rent a bike for a few days instead of the car. Or really slow it down and stretch the legs around to town for a walk. Consider a hot air balloon excursion to see the country from a birds eye view as you toast a sunset for the ultimate high. Or sunrise you know, mimosas in the morning!

As we exited Highway One, we started our climb up a twisty road. Almost immediately, the sounds of the cars wed left behind were muffled by the trees that rose up along with us as we went. As we turned the last corner, wild turkeys sauntered across a clearing. There, perched all alone at the top of a densely wooded hill, was Brewery Gulch Inn.

The impressive, beautiful redwood-shake inn seems at one with its surroundings. This might be because the inn was built from enormous redwoods native to the area. The logs were felled over a hundred years ago and salvaged from the nearby Big River late last century. Redwood beams, posts, doors, and cabinetry crafted from the logs are featured throughout the inn.

Bordering a state forest, the inn is wonderfully secluded. It commands majestic views of Smugglers Cove in Mendocino Bay. The tranquil setting is both a wonderful base for exploring the area and an inviting destination in its own right.

Hidden In A Redwood Forest

The Cottage at Mendocino Farmhouse is nestled in a private redwood forest just minutes from the village of Mendocino. Newly renovated to accommodate two people, The Cottage has everything to make your stay comfortable and safe. Revel in the solitude of a forest setting and explore the private garden that is just a step from your doorway.

Across from the barn is the Farmhouse, which has been a bed and breakfast for the past 35 years, but will now be a long term rental.

Mendocino Farmhouse and the barn now know as The Cottage were built for my family in 1976 on a five acre parcel of land that was logged to make a clearing for the buildings and garden. The gardens were finished a few years later after much work and lots of mulch and horse manure. There were milk goats in the barn, a flock of chickens and a big vegetable garden. Now most of the vegetables have been replaced with flowers and berries. In 1985 the rooms in the house were converted into four guest rooms and the barn was made into two rooms.

My son John helped in the early remodel in the house when he returned from the Peace Corps and son James has given invaluable help with numerous construction projects including the original barn and now converting the barn into The Cottage. My daughter Karin is always a great source of ideas and practical advice with her extensive knowledge in the hospitality and event management field and her successful business Karin Kamb Consulting.
