Should I Cook My Egg Bake Covered Or Uncovered
In a baking pan, bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown.
The Best Way To Store Egg Casserole
Whats the best way to store an egg casserole? Most recipes call for 350 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. The temperature of the casseroles center should be tested by pressing it against a food thermometer at 160F. If leftovers are left over after baking, they must be refrigerated within two hours and stored in the refrigerator or freezer for about three months.
To Bake Or Make Ahead
Cook it now or refrigerate overnight At this point you can either bake the casserole and serve or you can cover and refrigerate overnight and bake in the morning.
Bake NowSimply pour the egg mixture overtop and bake. Unlike a strata or french toast type recipe, you do not need to wait as there is no bread to soak up the mixture. So just make and bake.
Bake Later Cover the mixture tightly and refrigerate up to 48 hours. Remove from the fridge at least 30 minutes before baking .
Can I Make This Casserole Ahead
If you want to save cooking time in the morning, you can brown your sausage the day before and keep it in the refrigerator until the next day. Then all you have to do in the morning is put everything together and bake.
Or, if you want to save even more time in the morning, you can prepare everything the night before, cover with plastic wrap and keep in the refrigerator until ready to bake the next morning. This makes it the ultimate go-to breakfast casserole for both those lazy mornings where you just dont want to get out of bed, or busy mornings with a house full of guests!

Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole With Sausage & Eggs
There is no doubt that my sausage hash brown breakfast casserole is one of the most adored recipes here on Salty Side Dish. But I also get tons of questions on if the hash browns can be substituted for tater tots, so I decided to give this hack a try!
The great news? Substituting the hash browns for tater tots worked perfectly for a delicious dense potato base in this breakfast casserole. The best part about using tater tots over hash browns is that they already have a layer of fried outsides and brings a bit more crisp to the casserole no matter whether you choose this recipe or the other one, you will NOT be disappointed in this filling, delicious, and memorable breakfast.

How To Make This Breakfast Casserole Recipe
Anywho, this casserole is maybe the easiest thing ever to put together. There are so many versions out there, but this is the one I use and love. Its wonderful to wake up in the morning and have it ready to go straight into the oven. On Christmas, we often pop it the oven, then open some presents while it bakes.
To get started making it, theres some bread. I dont use fresh bread from the bakery in this one, like I would a french toast casserole, because I dont want anything too firm or crunchy. I want the eggs and sausage to shine in here. I tend to use a regular loaf of bread, often of the sourdough variety because I love it. But really any should work just fine.
Sausage and cheese are sprinkled over the bread and lets be honest, you cant go wrong with either of those. A full pound of sausage and two cups of cheese should be plenty, but if you feel the need for more you go for it!
Then weve got eggs, milk, and some dry mustard, salt and pepper for flavor. The whole casserole is covered and stored in the fridge overnight. Baking it the next morning couldnt be easier!
You may need to bake it for a little more or less time depending on your oven and how soft or runny you prefer the casserole to be. I dont really like it to be runny, but I also dont want it to dry out. To check it, use a fork or knife to stick in the middle and see how soft it still is. When its done, youll definitely be rewarded!

A Great Breakfast To Start Your Day
You can make a delicious breakfast by eating eggs, bacon, and sausage. Sausages and bacon are high in protein, as are eggs, which are also high in healthy fats. Because they are not in direct contact with the hot pan, it is best to cook the eggs first, followed by the sausages later. This breakfast contains eight grams of fat and 24 grams of net carbohydrates.

What Makes This Breakfast Casserole So Easy
This Breakfast Casserole can certainly feed a crowd, but it is also perfect for a quiet breakfast with your husband or catching up with the girlfriends over brunch. I often make it for dinner too! Most of these ingredients can simply be opened and added to the pan.
This casserole also has the option of being prepared the night before, so all you have to do is bake it in the morning. Theres very little prep work involved and it will be in and out of the oven in 30 minutes!
Angela’s Tips & Recipe Notes
- Add some sauteed onion! If you prefer onion in place of onion powder, use a splash of olive oil and sautee some white onion over medium-high heat, then add the sausage to the pan with the onion as it browns. Alternatively, dried minced onion can be added while you brown the sausage.
- Wait to add pepper! If pepper is desired, add it upon serving. Black pepper can turn eggs an unsavory grey color if added before they are cooked.
- Storing: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
- Reheating: Reheat individual slices in the microwave in 30-second increments until hot. To reheat the whole casserole, cover it with foil and place it in the oven at 350°F for about 20 minutes.

First, place the pieces of bread in the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch or any 34-quart oven-safe dish. I usually use this glass pan or the pictured red ruffled baking dish, which comes in a set with other sizesdefinitely a splurge, but Ive found the quality to be excellent. Showing you the bread scattered in the pan as well as the optional potato substitution:
Set that aside and pre-cook your vegetables and meat . You can do this all in 1 big skillet on the stove, adding onion, garlic, and optional herbs like dried rosemary or your favorite seasoning blend. As thats sizzling on the stove, whisk the eggs, milk, and cheese together:
Now its time to assemble, and Ive made this process a lot easier over the years. Spoon all of the vegetables/meat mixture on top of the bread. Pour the egg mixture all over that:
