Often if your family is already used to eating a real food diet, your usual breakfast will work for your baby as well! Its the beauty of baby-led weaning you can offer what the rest of the family is eating.

I hope these ideas help you come up with some delicious breakfasts for your baby, toddler, and yourself

Wait Im Worried About My Baby Or Toddler Choking On Solid Food

If youre worried about your baby choking make sure you check out our guide on baby gagging. Understandably, this is a common concern. Keep in mind that gagging and choking are two different things. Its quite common for babies and toddlers to gag occasionally.

If your baby or toddler gags a lot with new foods they might be getting used to the texture. Or, they may need help learning to chew.

However, if its happening a lot youll want to talk to your doctor and for sure head to that guide. This is something Ive seen a lot as an OT and the sooner you address it the better.

Of course, any concerns at all about your childs eating or variety of foods should be brought up with your childs pediatrician.

And, if youre wondering when you should first serve the ever popular crunchy breakfast cereal, Cheerios, then head to When Can Babies Eat Cheerios.

What Should Be My Babys Eating Routine

Well, thats a tricky question for all the mothers.

How much should my baby eat? How many snacks should he eat in a day? Should I continue breastfeeding him or not? These are some of the most common questions mums come across, and many cannot find a correct answer. However, we have tried to provide you with a food plan that you should be following every day to make sure that your baby is receiving the required amount of nutrition:

  • Morning Formula or Breast Milk
  • Night Formula or Breast Milk

If you follow this pattern, your baby will eventually fall into this habit, and his hunger centres will activate as the time approaches. Therefore, it is vital to get your baby in a routine so that you dont complain about him not eating food.

How To Check If Your Baby Is Getting Enough Breast Milk Or Formula

Baby Led Weaning Breakfast Ideas: Healthy Porridge Squares

While feeding your baby, a few concerns are bound to creep up every now and then. You might wonder if your child is getting enough milk or formula every day here are some ways in which you can assess this:

Breastfed Baby:

  • If your baby appears content after every feed, it is an indication that he is getting enough milk.
  • When you experience a let-down, it is an indication that breastmilk is being replenished on a regular basis.
  • Check your babys urine and see if it is clear and odourless. That is a sign of a well-fed baby.
  • Your baby has regular bowel movements.

Formula-fed Baby:

  • Convert your babys weight into pounds and multiply it by 2 and 2.5 to get two values that will be considered as lower and upper ranges for the amount of formula your baby needs each day.
  • As your baby approaches his first birthday, the formula feed is likely to decline to just one big feed per day.
  • See if your baby wets a minimum of six diapers in a 24-hour period.

Month Old Feeding Schedule

We have been following a schedule since our kids were about 2 months old keep in mind it was a very rough schedule at this age, but it has gotten more concrete over time.

At 8 months old, my kiddos have dropped to 3-4 bottles a day, 3 solid meals, and 1-2 snacks.

A schedule has been especially helpful after having two kids! It helps keep everyone on track and from getting hungry , and makes it easier to schedule appointments or outings. Around 8-10 months most babies drop to 3-4 bottles so I will share both of those schedules:

Breakfast Ideas For An 11

Breakfast is often dubbed “the most important meal of the day,” and with good reason. As Kids Health explains, your infant’s body needs refueling after hours of fasting during sleep. Kids who skip breakfast may be cranky later in the day, and do not function at their best. Start your 11-month-old off right with a nutritious and appealing meal in the morning.

Eleven-month-old babies can eat many table foods, but since they are not quite a year old, some ingredients may need to be changed in popular foods. French toast is an easy-to-make and easy-to-eat food for older babies. Ask your pediatrician if it is safe to give your not-quite-1-year-old egg whites. If not, use only the yolks and milk to coat the bread. Since your baby should not drink cow’s milk yet, use soy milk or baby formula to mix with the egg. Serve French toast plain babies do not need cinnamon or syrup. Slice up some soft fruit, such as bananas or ripe peaches to serve alongside the French toast.

Homemade muffins can be chock-full of nutrients and are convenient. Freeze a batch and thaw one each evening for the next morning’s breakfast. If you don’t have time to make homemade muffins, add applesauce, grated carrot or mashed banana to packaged muffin mix for a healthy boost. Remember not to give your baby muffins that contain nuts, as these are a choking hazard. Also, check the ingredient labels for products that your baby should not be eating yet, such as egg whites and milk.

When To Introduce Food To Baby 6 Months To 1 Year

Here is a brief guide on the right time to introduce foods. But how to introduce them can be found in the recipe posts. Example: Oats or oatmeal I have mentioned clearly how to choose them and the kind you can use and how to prepare it for a baby.

You can find a a detailed baby food chart for 6 months old baby here along with recipes.

This Indian baby food chart and the baby food recipes have been developed for a good weight gain in babies.

How To Introduce New Foods

My 11

If your baby is partial to purées, you can make mealtime easy by using their favorite jarred or homemade baby food in innovative ways. For example, instead of serving pureed peas alone, you might stir them into mashed potatoes or cooked pasta. Jarred peaches can be swirled into unsweetened yogurt, and pears can become a pancake toppingyou get the idea.

Your little one is also likely interested in trying more finger foods at this age. You don’t have to put the spoons awayin fact, you can try giving your baby utensil practice by offering them a pre-loaded spoon to self-feedbut consider giving your older baby lots of opportunities to use their fingers by giving them safe foods to grab like soft, steamed cauliflower florets, slices of well-cooked egg omelet, or spears of ripe banana. These foods will broaden their tastes and allow them to practice their pincer grasp.

As you add new foods to your baby’s diet, continue watching for allergies, as you did when your baby first started on solids. Every time you add new foods to your baby’s diet, keep an eye out for allergies, just as you did when they first started solids. It’s perfectly normal, of course, to see your child make funny faces as they experience new tastes and textures, and they’ll inevitably reject some foods along the way.

Baby Led Weaning Pros And Cons

We know that introducing solids to babies this way tends to result in them having higher salt intakes than those who are weaned traditionally on pureed food. This is because many of the foods that lend themselves to baby led weaning are naturally salty think bread, cheese, crackers, breadsticks.

Its not easy for your little one to obtain a balanced diet when your baby led weaning either because often the quantities of food actually swallowed are so small. I love BLW for its sensory experience and its family mealtime social interactions but unfortunately, nutritional deficiencies do happen.

Therefore in this series of blogs, Im going to guide you through how to maximise the nutrition your baby gets even if she only manages to eat a tiny bite and the rest goes on the floor, up the walls or in her hair!

I wanted to start this series of posts with blw breakfast as its often a chaotic time of day, so much needs to happen first thing and if your little one is anything like mine, you didnt get a good nights sleep, to begin with and so are often starting out in a hurry and a bit bleary-eyed! I hope a few breakfast ideas for babies might be helpful.

How Much Should An 11

As the first year of life comes to a close, your baby is able to eat most of what the rest of the family is having at their meal times. Obviously, however, the baby will eat far smaller amounts than the rest of you.

A loose rule of thumb is that the baby usually takes down three main meals during the course of the day and a couple of snacks in between the meals. When the baby eats is usually dependent on their appetite and your schedule.

Delving deeper into the quantities of food per day, its advisable that you give the baby up to 3 tablespoons of dairy products. For meat and the other proteins, you may give the baby up to 4 tablespoons. Its also advisable that you give no more than half a cup of fruits, vegetables, and cereals.

You should keep a close watch on how much your baby is eating. If they have high food reinforcement, they are likely to develop adiposity and obesity later on in life. Food reinforcement refers to how hard your baby will try to get more food. At this age, you’ll notice high food reinforcement through tantrums and crying when you dont provide the food theyre craving.

Getting Your Child To Eat Fruit And Vegetables

HEALTHY TODDLER MEAL IDEAS | 11 Month Old Baby Food Recipes

It may take up to 10 tries, or even more, for your child to get used to new foods, flavour and textures.

Be patient and keep offering a variety of fruits and vegetables, including ones with bitter flavours such as broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and cabbage.

Try to make sure fruits and vegetables are included in every meal.

Try these ways to help your child eat more fruit and vegetables:

  • give carrot sticks, cucumber stick or slices of pepper with hummus as a snack
  • give apple slices with smooth peanut butter as a snack
  • mix chopped or mashed vegetables with rice, mashed potatoes, meat sauces or dhal
  • add vegetables to classic savoury dishes such as cottage or shepherd’s pie, spaghetti bolognese or casseroles
  • chop prunes or dried apricots into cereal or plain, unsweetened yoghurt, or add them to a stew
  • for a tasty dessert, try mixing fruit with plain, unsweetened yoghurt.

How To Serve Balanced Toddler Breakfasts Step

Toddlers need balanced meals so try to serve a food from most of these food groups during most meals.

  • Carbohydrates: foods like whole grains, fruit, and veggies like sweet potatoes provide long lasting energy.
  • Protein: Found in meat, eggs, dairy, nuts, seeds, and legumes, mostly, protein helps little bodies to grow and also helps to keep toddlers feeling satisfied longer. This means that those requests for snacks may be less frequent!
  • Healthy fats: Babies and toddlers need fats for proper brain development, especially up until age 2. You can find healthy fats for toddlers in avocado, flax and chia seeds, nuts, fish , egg yolks, and whole milk dairy .
  • Produce: Fruits and vegetables of all kinds and colors provides the vitamins and minerals toddlers need for immunity and proper development. And they just taste good!
  • Avoid Added Sugars Before Age 1

Most of the recipes below are free of added sugars. However, some may use maple syrup or honey as a sweetener. You can leave those ingredients out for little ones, but may consider adding them in for toddlers.

Its important to know that honey should NOT be introduced to babies under the age of 1 due to the risk of infant botulism.

The American Association of Pediatrics actually recommends that you avoid added sugars before the age of 2, and limit the daily intake after age 2.

    • 1-2 teaspoons sweetener of choice: maple syrup, honey
    • 2-3 tablespoons mashed fruit: banana, berries, mango, unsweetened applesauce, etc.

    • ¼ teaspoon spices
  • Toppings – to be added right before eating
  • What About Allergens In Baby Breakfast Foods

11 Month Old Meal Plan â Nutritionist Approved

As parents, the idea of a food allergy or intolerance is incredibly scary. If baby has a reaction, how do we know and how are we supposed to react?

As previously mentioned, there has been a good amount of newer research showing that an early introduction of allergen foods to most babies is safe and may even reduce the risk of future allergies.

There was a key peanut study that helped form new recommendations about allergens and child feeding. Here are some of the key takeaway points:

    • Maternal avoidance of allergenic solids during pregnancy or breastfeeding and the delayed introduction of such foods in infants diet after the first year of life have proven to be an ineffective means of food allergy prevention.
    • There is good evidence that, for infants with severe atopic dermatitis and/or egg allergy, regular peanut intake after four months and before 12 months of age can reduce the risk of developing peanut allergy.
    • In line with current guidelines, we recommend a progressive introduction to solid foods, including all common allergenic solids, during the first year of life, according to the infants ability to chew, keep their head still and sit propped up, and familial or cultural habits, beginning at around six months but not before four months of age.

However, you should speak with your individual pediatrician or care provider about your specific situation.
