Mix cooked quinoa, with unsweetened applesauce , and add a pinch of cinnamon for flavor. Make sure you rinse uncooked quinoa to remove its natural chemicals that may cause it to taste bitter.

To make a cinnamon quinoa bowl:

  • ¼ cup to ½ cup cooked quinoa

Yummy Baby Breakfast #: Apple Pie Oats

Were salivating just thinking about this daybreak delight. Oats are an excellent source of whole grains and iron, while apples offer vitamin C and fiber.

To make apple pie oats, youll need:

  • ¼ to ½ cup oats
  • ½ to 1 cup breastmilk, prepared formula, or water
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons steamed apples, chopped
  • Cinnamon, apple pie spice

Whip up this breakfast treat by first steaming or boiling a peeled apple and then prepping the oats and liquid via stove. Mix in cinnamon and apple pie spice for a kick of flavor your tot will love.

Mix the fruit. Since the banana is the fruit that gives most meals it’s creamy texture and sweetness, if you choose to mix up the fruit, I would advise you change the apple. Pear, peach and plums are all great choices here. Especially in those first few months of starting solids as they provide generous fiber that can help the digestive system.

Mix the grains. This recipe doesn’t really have to be all about rolled oats and oatmeal. You can change the grains and use those such as buckwheat, millet or amaranth.

Add some spices. Cinnamon is a great first spice to add to your baby’s meals. With the apple and banana combination here, it truly gives a great and aromatic meal.

We know that introducing solids to babies this way tends to result in them having higher salt intakes than those who are weaned traditionally on pureed food. This is because many of the foods that lend themselves to baby led weaning are naturally salty think bread, cheese, crackers, breadsticks.

Its not easy for your little one to obtain a balanced diet when your baby led weaning either because often the quantities of food actually swallowed are so small. I love BLW for its sensory experience and its family mealtime social interactions but unfortunately, nutritional deficiencies do happen.

Therefore in this series of blogs, Im going to guide you through how to maximise the nutrition your baby gets even if she only manages to eat a tiny bite and the rest goes on the floor, up the walls or in her hair!

I wanted to start this series of posts with blw breakfast as its often a chaotic time of day, so much needs to happen first thing and if your little one is anything like mine, you didnt get a good nights sleep, to begin with and so are often starting out in a hurry and a bit bleary-eyed! Does the old adage breakfast is the most important meal of the day cover babies too? It does! They need the first meal of the day to get themselves up and running. Your little baby needs his kick-starter meal to boost his metabolic processes. Dont you feel exhausted when you get up and need that first cup of coffee or a fulfilling breakfast? Well, so does baby! A healthy breakfast habit from the very start will set your baby up for a healthy lifestyle through their lives. To help ensure your babys safety during baby-led weaning, preparation is the key. We can reduce the risk of choking incidents by knowing how to cut and prepare foods appropriately.

  • For cylindrical foods like sausage, you can cut them into strips.
  • For round-shaped foods like cherry tomatoes, you can keep the pieces at no bigger than ½ inch. You can also mash them up.
  • Hard foods like carrots need to be steamed or cooked until fork tender.
  • It can be a good idea for fruits and vegetables to remove the pits and skins.

How Much Should A Baby Eat For Breakfast

This is one of the most common questions I receive. And the answer is it depends on your perfectly unique child.

Babies are born with an innate ability to self-regulate, and while it’s so tempting to take control and push them to finish their plate, the best thing we can do is to follow their lead.

There are so many factors that can affect their appetite. They may be sick, teething, going through a growth spurt, feeling tired, excited, etc. Therefore, consider their intake on a weekly basis rather than daily.

As long as you are consistently offering your baby 2-3 meals by 9-10 months and continuing to offer breastmilk/formula, your baby should be getting adequate nutrition.

Still worried? If your baby is growing and following their normal growth curve, you guys are rocking it!

You do want to make sure they’re getting enough iron so be sure to include an iron-rich source with each meal!

What Can I Give My 1

At age one, your babys main source of nutrition is now solid foods. You can now share your familys food with your baby. With their little tummies, youll still want to pack them with nutrient-rich foods, so they can go, grow and glow!

Your baby is already an expert at grasping food or using utensils during this stage. If not, dont worry as each baby develops on their own time. Even if self-feeding is now much easier, its still advisable to supervise your baby while eating.

Dont Use Cow Milk Yet

Cow milk doesnt contain the essential nutrition that your baby needs at this age, so wait until they turn one before introducing it. Cow milk contains more salt, protein, calcium, and potassium than formula or breast milk. This can raise the load on babies kidneys.

Try to arrange the feeding schedule of your eight-month-old baby according to their personal needs and those of your family. While preparing an 8-month-old babys meal, dont mash the food completely. Avoid salt and sugar, and try to store leftovers in glass or steel. Be careful about food allergies, and dont introduce cow milk until your child is one year old.

  • Picky-Eaters You dont need to feel the pressure to add in veggies or foods that your child doesnt care for in the morning. Go with a breakfast they like and if you have the time add in fruit, yogurt, meat or other food they dont care for as much on the side to expose your toddler to other food options as well.
  • One Breakfast for the Entire Family Make one breakfast for baby, toddler, kids and you! I developed these breakfast recipes for toddlers and kids, but I eat them as well! One meal for the whole family! So dont think that you have to make an extra meal just for yourself. I do usually add sriracha, butter or syrup to my portion depending on what the recipe is.

How Much Water Does A 6

While food keeps your pups muscles and immunity strong, keeping it hydrated with fluids is the most important task. Water should always be available for your dog no pup parent wants to see their pup dehydrated after all. Especially if you live in a hot region or if its the summers, make sure you keep few bowls of fresh water in different areas of your home.

When it comes to the quantity, pups between 6-12 months of age need to drink half a cup of water at an interval of 2-3 hours. This can vary for larger breeds who may need more water to get by hot weather.

What If My Baby Rejects The Food I Made

Yummy Baby Breakfast #: Peachy Parfait

Whats better in the morning than babys own parfait? This filling breakfast boasts lots of good nutrition thanks to yogurt , peaches , and ground walnuts .

To make a peachy parfait youll need:

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of plain whole milk yogurt
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons of chopped peaches
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons of finely ground walnuts

Simply layer yogurt with chopped peaches. But dont stop there. Top it with finely ground walnuts to give your babys developing brain a boost of healthy fats.

Breakfast Ideas For 10 Months

All the baked goods that aren’t linked are from my first ecookbook – Baby Led Weaning Beginner Bites.

Whenever I baked, I made sure to freeze half so I could build my freezer stash. Then I could easily pull them out and thaw in the fridge overnight to enjoy first thing in the morning!

Carbohydrates & Energy Foods

  • small pea sized bites or sliced fingers of whole grain toast topped with a thin layer nut butter or avocado
  • small pea sized bites or sliced fingers of french toast or pancakes
  • well cooked oatmeal

To plan a menu, simply combine one food from each category! Here are just a few of our favorite combinations:

  • oatmeal mixed with a tablespoon of yogurt & a teaspoon of almond butter
  • french toast sticks
  • kiwi spears or mandarin oranges
  • wholegrain toast thinly spread with almond butter
  • whole milk yogurt

Tips On How To Start Solids For Baby

First consult your pediatrician to confirm if your baby is ready for solids. It is very important to plan well before you introduce any other foods apart from breast milk.

Make your own feeding schedule along with the foods you intend you try and get an approval from your pediatrician. Most clinics and hospitals also provide a diet chart or at least a guide.

I have made this from the guidelines I got from the Clinics here in Singapore. I have followed the same for both my babies.

1. Always start with a single food. Either a fruit, vegetable or grain. Avoid a mixture of foods. You can start with mashed fruit first. The presence of digestive enzymes in fruits helps the baby to digest them better.

2. After a week, while you continue feeding fruit, you can start rice water , after a week clear dal soup or boiled vegetable broth / water.

3. Always follow the 3 day wait rule for every food you introduce. Wait for the results until the 4th day. Please see the doctor immediately if your baby develops rashes, runny nose, watery eyes, colic etc.

4. Introduce new foods to your baby during breakfast or lunch. Avoid trying new foods during the later time of the day as it is easy to get a control over the problems.

5. A 7 month old baby can eat only a tsp of mashed food initially. Slowly by 4 weeks increase the quantity to a tbsp and then more.

A Few Tips For Feeding Your Bubs:

Tip 1: I do find that for foods that are harder for him to eat like rice and quinoa, I love mashing some sweet potato or avocado in it to make it easier to feed!

Tip 2: Buy an ice cube tray or something similar so you can freeze food for your bubba too. I always freeze some mashed peas or sweet potato to have on hand and some of my baked goods, oatmeal, anything!

Tip 3: Dont force something if they arent into it. The other night Ezra was screaming over having peas. Meanwhile he ate them the last two nights no problem. I saved the peas for the next day and quickly mashed some avocado and sautéed zucchini to go with his dinner instead. I never want him to feel pressured to eat food he doesnt want.

Tip 4: We are still trying to get Ez to feed himself more . I like to save a few pieces after he is done and let him play with the food after. Sometimes he gets it in his mouth but more often than not it is on the floor

Tip 5: Keep unsweetened dried fruit like mangos in your stroller or diaper bag for when your bubba gets cranky. I always give these to Ezra and it also teaches him to hold the food/put in his mouth.

Tip 6: We always offer the food on holidays for Ez. He doesnt have separate food. On the jewish holiday, we gave him matzo ball soup, brisket, potatoes, etc. It was great to introduce him to these and it also is more inclusive for him.
