Trekkers Cheesy Avocado Wrap
Honestly, this is probably my favorite no-cook camp breakfast on our list. Its simply delicious.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon sugar or pinch of stevia
Make the same way as our outdoor overnight oats recipe, also adding apples along with the water.
Some dont consider whole fruits a good backpacking food because of their perishability. However, as long as youre not in an extremely hot environment, apples can last for weeks in your bag. Plus, theyre firm enough to not splatter all over your pack.
If the length of your trek allows, try to bring enough whole, raw fruit to have a piece on the trail every single day.
The Most Traditional Camping Food
We mustnt forget the king of the camping food sandwich! Sandwiches are always a good idea. You can prepare a couple of sandwiches at home and eat them on the road or the first day, but you can also bring along packaged sliced bread and make your sandwiches in the camping site. But before that check the expiration date on the package.
The best ingredients for the sandwich are also the ones that dont get spoiled so easily when outside of the refrigerator. That can be meat products, such as pepperoni, chorizo, and salami, but also smoked products like smoked salmon and chicken breast. Finish up with a hard cheese youve packed for snacking, and add ketchup because it can truly survive an apocalypse.
Camping is always an amazing experience, and you should spend as much time as you can truly enjoying every minute of it. Regardless of where are you going, we are sure there are plenty of beautiful things to see, and you dont want to waste your time cooking your food.
And speaking of cooking, stove and pots can occupy a lot of precious room in your trunk. So use these ideas we gave you and pack up some delicious foods that do not require cooking. Were sure you will enjoy them.

Chocolates And Energy Bars
If youre looking for no-cook camping meals that are both delicious and nutritious, chocolate and energy bars are great. Not only do they provide a quick and easy source of energy, but they also contain various essential nutrients that can help you stay healthy while camping.
Many chocolate and energy bars are fortified with vitamins and minerals, such as iron and calcium. In addition, they contain fiber and protein, which can help keep you feeling full and satisfied.
Best of all, chocolate and energy bars are easy to pack and transport, making them a great addition to any campers luggage. If you avoid processed sugars, organic energy bites are also a good option.

Mason Jar / Reusable Bag Meals
Mason jars are great for camping. Theyre somewhat heavy, so they might not be your go-to for backpacking, but there are a lot of tasty meals you can make in a mason jar or a plastic bag for backpackers. Mason jar salads, where you put all your ingredients into a jar, can be highly customizable depending on your tastes. Anything in a mason jar can be duplicated in a plastic bag to save weight for backpackers. Some winning combos that we recommend include:
- Greek salad: Greek dressing, leafy greens, chickpeas, chopped cucumbers, red onions, feta cheese, pine nuts, olives
- Egg and quinoa: Quinoa, a chopped hard-boiled egg or two, chopped avocado, cherry tomatoes, dressing of your choice
- Not-so-instant ramen: Cooked ramen noodles, sliced mushrooms, hard-boiled egg, shredded carrots, seasonings of your choice
This style meal for backpackers is recommended as a day 1 or night 1 meal. So that your first meal on the trail can be of the fresh variety, and then subsequent meals can be non perishable foods.
Sandwiches Tortas And Wraps

These no cook meals arent super fancy, but they are versatile and you can find many combinations to satisfy even the most picky eater.
Tortas, wraps, and sandwiches are so easy to make ahead and toss in the cooler. Alternatively, you can pack bread or tortillas and keep the fixings in a cooler and assemble at your destination.
I love the Mexican version of a sandwich, called a torta. What makes the torta so much better than a regular sandwich, in my opinion, is the bread. Instead of sliced bread, you slice a bolillo lengthwise.
A bolillo, or telera, is kind of like a soft roll or soft French bread. I was at Lake Mineral Wells State Park when a family in our nature community served me a torta and I was instantly transported back home to my abuelas kitchen in El Paso with Vicente Fernández on the radio.
When it comes to sandwiches and wraps, you have unlimited options. My familys sandwich preferences are pretty basic. My husband enjoys an excessive amount of jelly and peanut butter and both he and our kids stick to a very simple meat and cheese combo. Occasionally they stick some chips in the middle.
For a snack theyll put some peanut butter and Nutella in a tortilla or on bread. My goal is to expand their horizons a little more!
You can add any fixings between two slices of bread or rolled in a tortilla and have yourself a super fast no cook meal thats easy to eat on the move.

Pick Up Food From A Restaurant
Most of the state parks and places we visit in DFW are within 30 minutes of a city or town, so this may be a luxury we have that you cant find in other parts of the country. But its definitely saved a few camping trips for families who were inexperienced with cooking outdoors. It made them feel more comfortable to know that at least one of their meals would be guaranteed.
Once, I attempted to cook fajitas on a camping stove, because it was brand new and I was brand new to camping and I wanted to test it out. I started cooking way too late and my friend was a boy scout and saved the day and the meal for families waiting to eat at one of our first camping trips. Learn from my mistake and go get food or cook the carne over the campfire or a portable camping grill!
When weve had a super long day or we forgot an essential ingredient, weve changed our plans and one of us ran into town to pick up pizza or food from a local restaurant. Other times we know the drive will be long and itll be dark by the time we get camp set up so we plan to stop at a restaurant on the way. Still other times we want to keep our movie night tradition and grab pizza to eat under the stars and enjoy the show.
Pasta And Bean Salads
TMM team member Domo makes a chickpea dish that requires no cooking and tastes great during the hot summer months. She says, Mix 2 cans of chickpeas w 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 2 TBS lemon juice, and a dash of cumin, salt, pepper and paprika. I add 1/2 of a bell pepper finely chopped and/or 1-2 carrots finely chopped. You could add other beans or onions as well depending on personal tastes.
Another no cook salad Domo makes has a southwestern flair and is sometimes referred to as a variation of cowboy caviar . To make this dish she says, Mix 1 can of corn with 1 can black beans , 1/2 a large red onion finely chopped, 1/4 cup olive oil, salt & pepper, dash of paprika, and 1-2 avocados chopped. Mix & eat. You can bring along chips and eat this dish like you would salsa.
TMM team members Jackie and Jami make a pasta salad and three bean salad at home and pack it in the cooler. Jami pairs hers with sandwiches and fruit for a meal.

Smoked Sausage And Chicken
This is a simple meal that Ill cook up in the RV knowing everyone will love and I mean EVERYONE. . This is a tasty dinner that you can pre-prep and bring along cold to camp.
You dont have to cook the smoked sausage if you dont want to, I like to broil it up in my RV stove, it cooks better in the oven, than on the grill. Cook up extra to take with you, because this is one of our most popular recipes.
Add this with some eggs and you have a filling breakfast meal, another food source that works well for camping.

Salad Kits With Protein
Most grocery stores have premade salad bags that come with dressing and extra toppings. This is a great base for you to add a protein of your choice and turn it into a meal with no cooking involved! TMM members have used hummus, canned tuna, and canned chicken with success.
TMM team member Becky said to give canned chicken a try, even if it might seem gross at first because of the mushy texture. She has tried it mixed with kale salads, pre-cooked rice with sauces, and mixed with apples, mayo, raisins, and curry for a chicken salad. Because it does have a very soft texture, she suggests, Mix it with crunchy foods or use it as a dip or spread.
I havent tried this, but I bet it makes a good buffalo chicken dip with Franks hot sauce and softened cream cheese. Weve made a buffalo chicken dip with canned chicken for a Super Bowl party, but now I want to try and take it camping this fall.
Here are some pro tips from TMM team members about taking plant and animal based protein on an adventure in the warmer months. Jackie says, Throw your cans in the cooler. Warm tuna on a salad didnt taste amazing. I mean not horrible, just not as cold and crisp as I was hoping when it was 96 degrees! I packed a can of chicken to throw into a southwest flavored salad.
