It’s hard to swing a cat head biscuit on the Grand Strand without hitting a breakfast restaurant. With millions of visitors each year and more than 100 golf courses, breakfast joints are par for the course in the Myrtle Beach area. Unfortunately, quantity doesn’t always equal quality, but there are at least 10 great places to start your day.

Most restaurants feature the same traditional Southern breakfast menu of eggs and meat, pancakes and hashbrowns – you know the morning drill. But it’s how those standards are executed and the service and atmosphere that set the great ones apart from the good, and there are plenty of the former to keep you filled up on morning fuel during your stay.

Many have been in business for decades, like our chart-topper Mammy’s Kitchen, currently celebrating its 60th year in business. This mom-and-pop shop is a mainstay on the Myrtle Beach breakfast scene. In addition to the excellent and affordable breakfast bar, the family atmosphere keeps generations of vacationers back year after year.

The same is true at more upscale institutions such as the Sea Captain’s House, where the breakfasts are made to order and feature some less traditional morning fare. Shrimp over creamy grits and other seafood offerings make for an original morning lineup, but this popular spot also serves all the breakfast classics.

Joe’s Diner By The Airport

It’s easy to take one look at this restaurant and decide to keep going. It’s not a fancy-looking place and it’s in a bit of a remote area, away from most of the good stuff at the beach. In fact, if you don’t know about it, you’d probably never go there.

This old diner has been in business for decades and you can find some of the best Southern breakfast and lunch here. It’s a good, old-fashioned restaurant that sells good, old-fashioned food. Like the previous restaurant, they don’t employ bells and whistles to sell their food. What you see is what you get and what you get is delicious. Everything they serve is homemade just like mama’s in the kitchen.

I love the authenticity of their food. They have great sandwiches and even better coffee. If you want something more, their biscuits and gravy are to die for. Plus, to make it better their prices are amazing compared to other restaurants at the beach. The fact that they’re a little out of the way means that you won’t have to wait on a table and you’re sure to get great customer service that will make you want to come back every day.
